Growing up fast

I cannot believe how quickly Heidi is learning new things. She is now pulling up on everything. She's tired of this crawling stuff and is ready to get walking. She still doesn't have the balance to stand on her own, but she sure does try. It won't be long till she learns that balance.

Her newest trick is giving kisses. It is the most slobbery yucky thing in the world. She does a total open mouth press onto our cheeks. And... if we're lucky, her tongue licks our cheek as well. It's pretty yucky, but adorable.

I'm so excited to see what else she's going to learn over the next few months!

Pulling up

I guess crawling isn't enough for one week, she is now trying to pull up on things. She's been pulling up to a standing position when I hold her hands, but now she's taken it a step further. While I workout at taekwondo I put her in her playpen at the back of the room and she has a blast playing by herself. When I looked back today I saw her hands pressed against the side of her playpen and her legs were straightening up... she was almost in a full standing position. She amazes me at how quickly she learns new things.

Keeping me on my toes

Now that Heidi is crawling (everywhere) she is keeping me on my toes. Once she took her first crawl, there was no stopping her... she got moving very quickly. It's great that I can set her down in the living room and she can decide what toy to play with. Out of all the toys she has her favorite toy is the dog toy. As soon as we set her down she eyeballs the dog toy and then she's off to the races. Gizzie doesn't enjoy sharing very much. He's been very good so far and has not growled at her or tried to bite (yet). He just takes his toy and runs away. Then Heidi follows as much as she can. The other items she enjoys are the door stops, mom and dad's shoes, and the entertainment center. All fun and safe items for an infant! Speaking of infant safety, we've begun baby proofing the house. Over the weekend we covered the outlets in the living room and her bedroom. Awhile ago I put some decorative throw pillows in front of the brick fireplace. That's as far as we got. Next we have to baby proof the kitchen cabinets. We have a lot of work ahead of us!

And..... She's Off!

Heidi crawled for the first time today! She's been inching forward little by little, but today she got her belly off the ground and moved forward a few feet. It was very exciting as a parent to watch our daughter hit another milestone. Of course by the time we got the video camera ready to film she had stopped her crawling. We'll have that up on youtube as soon as we can.

Moving Forward

At last! The crawling backwards is now being replaced by forward army crawls. This morning Heidi actually moved an inch or so forward instead of falling backwards. She's been trying to crawl for a couple of months, so it'll be any day now! I don't consider the army crawl as crawling yet. Once she can move forward with the belly off the floor, then we're talking! Gizzmo better watch out, Heidi is coming after you!

Heidi's swim lesson

Today was an exciting day at swim lessons. Heidi went all the way under the water for 1 second. The first time she was kinda shocked and coughed a little when she came up, but the next few times she was anticipating going under and did much better. She came up smiling! Each week she will go under for longer periods of time until she can stay under for 10 seconds. By the time summer comes around she'll be ready to swim in Mimi and Grandpa's pool!

Heidi's first tooth

Heidi is finally getting her first tooth. She has been teething forever and drooling everywhere. I felt around her gums and there was a little sharp tooth beginning to poke through. The tooth isn't easy to see yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. I'm looking forward to the many more teeth to come!
